We had an impactful session with Andrew Buffenbarger, Chief Compliance Officer at Kirby Medical Center, who challenged our students to think deeply about what it truly means to lead.
Andrew emphasized that leadership isn’t one-size-fits-all—you must first understand your own leadership style, and just as importantly, recognize the styles of those around you. That awareness is what allows teams to perform at a higher level and leaders to connect in meaningful ways.
One of the most thought-provoking parts of the conversation was the distinction between impactful leadership and control. Using the example of Adolf Hitler, Andrew highlighted that while some individuals can influence and direct others, true leadership is not rooted in control or fear—but in trust, integrity, and purpose.
Our students walked away with a clearer understanding that being a “good leader” isn’t just about getting results—it’s about how you lead people to achieve them.
